Frida Kahlo

"I am not sick. I am broken. But I am happy as long as I can paint." And so in today's workshop, we looked at the amazing inspirational Frida Kahlo. She was involved in a bus crash and as a result lived the rest of her life in chronic pain. But she transformed that pain into creativity. We talked about Frida and looked at some of her work. Some of her paintings are too disturbing for children so we focussed on the fact that she loved to paint herself often with her pets. The children did some drawings of animals that they would like as pets...lions and dragons for example! We also focussed on the fact that Frida Kahlo was from Mexico. We talked about their joyful celebration called The Day Of The Dead. The kids then got to work decorating skeleton collages. Great results!
