Tuesday Art Club: Kahlo

Tuesday saw the start of my first after school art club and according one little girl, it scored double 18 out of 5. Great stuff! We kicked off our 8 weeks with the fabulous Frieda Kahlo. Obviously given her traumatic life experience, I toned down the information and monitored what paintings to look at, so as not to give the kids nightmares! But Kahlo is always interesting to talk about and we incorporated her Mexican roots into creating our own Day of the Dead skulls.

The children also did some self-portraits with their fave animals. I'm always intrigued by the children's choice of creature. We had a gecko, ant, fish to name a few. Pops decided to do a portrait of Kahlo painting herself.
