Monday Art Club: Paul Klee

We looked at Paul Klee today and the kids really enjoyed his abstract art. I think his mix of expressionism, cubism and surrealism really appeals to kids. They all called out various things that they thought they could see in some of his work. And one lad said, 'there's no wrong in art'. One replied: 'painting with poo would be wrong' and then they were all wide eyed when I told them Gilbert and George had done just that!

We focussed mainly on 'Head of a Man' and they used oil pastels to colour the face and then painted over the entire picture with acrylic paints. Quick blast of the hairdryer....and then they scraped the dried paint off the picture to reveal the oil pastels beneath. Made lovely textured images and the kids really enjoyed scraping the paint off.
