Marc Quinn
Very industrious workshop today. We looked at British visual artist and sculptor Marc Quinn and taking inspiration from sculptures of his head made from his own frozen blood - led to lots of discussion about whether blood really does turn blue without oxygen. We googled it and it does - we decorated polystyrene heads. We also looked at some examples of sensationalist art - a sculpture by a Chinese artist made entirely from panda poo for example. We decided not to use our own blood and poo and opted for paints and a huge variety of craft materials. The kids were engrossed and also very complimentary about each other's efforts which was lovely to hear. Then we took a 'family photo' (as one girl called it) of our punk rockers, zombies and aliens. Ace afternoon.
