Parkside School
Had a really lovely day working with SEN kids as part of their transition in September to secondary school. I noticed the power and benefit of tapping into self expression and creativity as the kids sat calmly and thoroughly absorbed in creating Nevelson inspired sculptures. I noticed lots of mutual compliments, encouragement and sharing. I noticed willingness, enthusiasm and imaginative thinking. I was so impressed at the kid's spectacular sculptures. One little girl in particular, had just found out that one of her friends had died and was very shaken up at the start of the workshop. But sitting quietly absorbed in her art, she was given the space to be free from her grief for an afternoon. She created one of the most amazing sculptures I've seen in a Nevelson workshop. Art is so powerful.
