Home Ed Workshop: Cave Art

One of my fave workshops as I have a special fascination for cave art. The kids listened attentively to the true story of the French teens who discovered Lascaux cave art in 1940 and we looked at lots of examples of art by our ancient human relatives. Then the kids tried their hand at drawing while lying on their backs to experience how cave artists would lie on scaffolding to paint on the ceilings of the cave! After that, they could use charcoal, pastels, pen or paint or all to create some cave art scenes. They all enjoyed telling me the stories behind their pictures. Finally, we tried petroglyphs - carving pictures into rocks. Very enjoyable afternoon!
