On Tuesday, we were inspired by the amazing artist Kathe Kollwitz. She had a very difficult childhood because of her tyrannical father and it's believed that she had Alice In Wonderland Syndrome - affects perception - which is why some of her art shows people with overly large hands or heads. She was a fighter for equal rights and believed 'art can be a force for good in society'. Her art often portrays the hardships faced by impoverished working class.
The kids were very interested in her and we looked at her etchings and prints. Then we etched into polystyrene sheets using bamboo sticks and using inks, we made our own prints. The kids were thrilled with the results! We also did some fun scratch paper art too.
