Self-Portraits: Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

The artists looked at German expressionist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner for their inspiration this week. They agreed that it was very sad that he died thinking he was an outcast after Hitler had announced his art to be degenerate and over 600 pieces were destroyed. Ernst thought that the Nazis were coming for him when they invaded a nearby village and so he shot himself. Now he is one of Germany's most revered artists.
