Very fun start to new art course with a peek at French painter and sculptor Jean Debuffet. He invented the concept of 'art brut' (raw art) which was art that came from inside the artist, not influenced by what other people thought. Young children's art and the art of the insane epitomised art brut.
Today we focussed on Debuffet's The Cow With The Subtle Nose, 1954 and created our own cows. The kids loved crumpling up their art to give it a textured appearance before painting water colours over crayon. They then named their cows. There was Shower Cow, Cow Eating Dinner and Granny Cow to name a few!
