Motoi Yamamoto

New art course got off to a very salty start....looking at Japanese artist Motoi Yamamoto who makes amazing salt installations. We learnt that salt is often associated with rituals at Japanese funerals and this is Yamamoto's way of connecting to memories of his sister who sadly died of brain cancer. We learnt how salt is revered in Japanese culture and cuisine and how Yamamoto uses it to help his grief. After sketching some patterns, the kids moved to the floor to create individual salt artworks but then decided to collaborate and joined them all together. Beautiful results.
