Yayoi Kusama
And in our final session of the latest art course, we looked at the fascinating Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Kusama has lived voluntarily in a psychiatric institution, and much of her work has been marked with obsessiveness and a desire to escape from psychological trauma. She is well known for her repetitive dot patterns and the kids were intrigued when Kusama said that one day her art came off the canvas, onto the table, then the floor and up the walls. As one child said "you wouldn't want her in your house" It's been a really lovely 8 weeks with this group exploring and discovering artists together.
