Romanesque

Art course number 10 (!) started last week and it's a little bit different to the usual format. We usually focus on one particular artist but this time round, we're looking at 'Art Movements'. We went back around 1000 years to the Romanesque movement in the Middle Ages. Art then was about teaching people Bible stories as they couldn't read or write so if you were an artist, the only place you could practise your art was in a church. The style was very flat and almost cartoony. The architecture was inspired by the Romans - huge columns and round arches - hence the name 'Romanesque'. We looked at examples and we tried our hand at making 'stained glass' effect art using a couple of different techniques. Very pretty results!
