Gustav Klimt
"Whoever wants to know something about me - as an artist which alone is significant - they should look attentively at my pictures and there seek to recognise what I am and what I want."
I do love Klimt. His art is unique and beautiful and I've got a lot of time for a man who wore long dresses and loved cats. Today we looked at examples of Klimt's art online and then used viewfinders to closely examine some of his paintings in books. Using a viewfinder helps you to really focus in on the small detail. We talked about his use of colour and different shapes and closely focussed on the Tree Of Life.
Then because the sun was actually shining we created our own Tree Of life in the garden, surrounded by trees. Seemed apt. The children love working with metallic colours and used corks and cotton buds to add dots to their art. The sun was hotter than we realised so I dished out some hats and suddenly my garden was full of slightly eccentric looking artists! My son thought he'd paint with his feet. And why not?
