Mexico Amate bark art
Really excited about this new art course! We're looking at cultural art and began this week with the Otomi Indians in Mexico. In particular, we learnt how they make their own beautiful handmade paper by stripping bark from the Jonote tree. We looked at particular motifs used in their art - birds, suns, flowers - and then set about creating our own. We used brown paper and carefully ripped the edges to make it look like peeled bark.
