New Zealand Maori Koru art
Kids were really interested in the Māori people of New Zealand this week. We watched a video of New Zealand's All Blacks performing the Māori 'haka' war dance before a rugby match and we looked at tā moko tribal tattoos. We also studied Māori art and focussed on such as the common symbols such as the koru - the unfurling fern that symbolises new life. Using fluorescent paints on a black background, the kids painted koru in a an abstract design. Beautiful.
