Amedeo Modigliani
In after school art club today we looked at Amadeo Modigliani, an Italian painter famous for his elongated, almost cartoon like portraits. One of the first artists to discover African masks which greatly influenced his style. Another interesting artist...impoverished life, swapping paintings for food, had just 1 exhibition in his lifetime and the police closed it on the first day because of the nude paintings and he apparently became an alcoholic more to disguise the fact that he had tuberculosis! The kids used aqua brush pens resulting in really beautiful portraits and all of them were fascinated by the examples of his long necked people.
