Monday Art Club: Georgia O'Keeffe

The kids enjoyed listening to a story about Georgia O'Keeffe - My Name Is Georgia, A Portrait by Jeanette Winter - which tells how O'Keeffe was different to all her sisters and very much a free spirit from a very young age. Afterwards we examined some flowers with magnifying glasses, taking the time to note the tiny detail and talked about how O'Keeffe would enlarge flowers on her canvas almost to the point where they became abstract.

The kids set to work painting their own flowers with two challenges: to make each petal touch the sides of the paper and to fill in every bit of white. They did it gleefully. I had a beautiful bunch of flowers by the end of the session!
