Tuesday Art Club: Hundertwasser

In after school art club, we looked at Hundertwasser. As usual, his name alone fascinates and we all practiced shouting it loudly. The kids instantly enjoyed his art and especially his architecture. In particular, they were fascinated by the almost hidden faces in some of his paintings and the way he blended portraits into the landscape to illustrate our connection to nature. When we set to work, the kids spent a lot of time challenging me to find the hidden faces in their paintings! We also watched a clip of Hundertwasser talking about how he props his completed paintings into the branches of a tree and is only satisfied if it blends in well. I love that kooky hippy!
