Tuesday Art club: Escher

Time for some MC Escher. We looked at some of his art and talked about 'tessellations'. One little lad panicked when he saw 'Relativity 1953' though and said 'I really don't think I can draw that!' I explained that we were just looking at Esher's art and thinking about 'optical illusions'. We spent some time looking at examples of optical illusions and I find kids always enjoy this. Interestingly, some struggled with the lizard tessellation template that we were working with and couldn't see the 2 whole lizards. Some saw 7! While they were painting, we played the Key Jar game (questions in a jar) e.g. what's your favourite word? One boy said his fave word was 'why?' Cool.
