Monday art club: Frank Bowling
We looked at artist Frank Bowling today. He went to the London Royal College of Art with Hockney but I don't know anyone who has heard of him. This is puzzling because his art is beautiful. The kids have now got a very good understanding of abstract expressionism and we spent some time looking at Bowling's art. We watched an animation on 'Colours' and talked about how colour can convey emotions.
Then after mixing colours to make a background, they set to work with the spray bottles. It's the perfect art for children who lack confidence in their ability as anyone can produce something beautiful with paints and spray bottles!
Best moment of the session had to be when it was agreed that drawing on someone else's work without their permission, was a crime punishable by death!
