Self-Portraits: Karl Schmidt-Rottluff

Last Tuesday the little selfies looked at a leading figure in 20th century German Expressionism...Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. Persecuted by the Nazi authorities in Germany, he was eventually banned from painting and printmaking. Now he's regarded as an important contributor to Expressionism and is ranked alongside the most famous 20th century painters in his field. The kids really embraced the bold, colourful style of Expressionism in their self-portraits and added a few unique touches of their own. I've loved watching their confidence grow throughout this course. Bold souls = bold art 😁
