African masks

African Masks have multiple varieties for many different reasons. Many masks are created for festivals, rituals and ceremonies. Some represent spirit beings or departed ancestors. Masks can be traced back to well past Paleolithic times. These art objects were (and are still) made of various materials; leather, metal, fabric and various types of wood. During celebrations, initiations, crop harvesting, war preparation, peace and troubled times, African masks are worn by a chosen dancer.
